An Arts + Crafts House
Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire / Build Spring 2026
A series of contemporary extensions, interior refurbishment and landscape interventions to supplement a large Arts + Crafts-inspired property in the leafy suburbs of Gerrards Cross.
The practice was approached to design two large extensions to this beautiful detached dwelling in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. The brief also included a requirement to convert the main loft space to house bedrooms as well as renovating the existing interiors.
The original architectural language of the property is heavily influenced by the Arts + Crafts movement of the late 19th Century, with its asymmetric roof form, beautiful handcrafted detailing and rich, warm and tactile materiality.
Our scheme looks to reinterpret this distinctive language in a contemporary manner, adopting a palette of materials that are hand-crafted: the handmade clay bricks and roof tiles, the bespoke oak joinery, the stone banding. There is ample opportunity for further craftsmanship within the interiors, evoking the key principles of A+C design.
The practice has completed a full concept and technical design service, acquired planning permission and Building Regulations approval, as well as providing a detailed interior design, landscape design and project management service for the client. Ahead of commencement on site, we have ensured that cost management, procurement and project administration is fully coordinated and robust.
